CHARACTER INFORMATION
SERIES: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
NAME: Euphemia li Britannia
RACE: Human (Britannian)
AGE: 16
CANON POINT: after episode 20
REFERENCES: wiki | euphy-specific
GENDER: Female
APPEARANCE: With pink hair and purple eyes, Euphy's features are clearly a tad unique, although they don't seem to be of any particular note within the series itself. After all, she's able to go out in town in "disguises" that don't really do much to alter her appearance, and nobody really takes notice because they've never seen the princess herself before. Her hair is typically styled in a unique way: she wears two small buns above her ears, and leaves the rest of her hair down. She's a thin girl, probably of slightly-above-average height, and often found in her pink princess dress.

PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS:

At a first glance, it's easy to mistake Euphemia for your typical airhead princess, whose only defining qualities are being sweet and naive. After all, she’s one of the kindest characters in the anime, and her main goal in life is to make those she loves happy. She’s also lived a fairly sheltered life in the past, and unlike her sister, she has not undergone serious military training nor actually fought in a battle.

However, there is much more to Euphy than meets the eye. She is not content being a princess (or sub-viceroy) in name only; she wants to be more than a figurehead, to instead be someone who can change things for the better. She recognizes that the Japanese in Area 11 are unhappy, and she wants to make life better not only for them but for her long-lost siblings as well. That's why she comes up with the plan of the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan: a place where everyone can live as equals, so that Zero - Lelouch - doesn't have to fight for Japan's freedom anymore.

One of her most notable characteristics is her impulsiveness. She often acts without fully thinking through the consequences of her plans; she’s run onto a battlefield multiple times in an attempt to stop the fighting, she picks her knight in the heat of the moment without consulting anyone, and she announces her plans for the SAZ during the middle of the Ashford Academy school festival. Her intentions are usually good - to end fighting, to get people to respect Suzaku, and to establish a zone of equality, respectively - but her methods of going about doing so can be troublesome for others.

In addition, she’s also filled with a great amount of self-doubt. In part because of her firm desire to be able to create change, she’s very disheartened by her realization that neither her older sister nor her brother take her seriously as a political figure. She's also worried that she's not partiuclarly remarkable as a leader; both Lelouch and Schneizel are more intelligent, Cornelia is stronger, Clovis was gentler....she often doubts her own abilities.

She tends to be overly critical of herself, however. While she’s not as smart as some of her older siblings, such as Lelouch and Schneizel, she isn’t stupid, either. She’s able to figure out Zero’s true identity after the hotel-jacking incident, despite the fact that Lelouch was supposedly dead at the time. In fact, she's the first person to identify Zero solely by putting together the evidence.

Most notably, however, Euphy is the type of person who will stand up for what is right. She doesn’t take well to the racist attitudes in Area 11, slapping a man who was insulting Suzaku during their first meeting. She's a pacifist by nature as well. She doesn't get involved with the fighting until she is forced to do so by Lelouch's geass; otherwise, all of her attempts to intervene were in the hopes of preventing further bloodshed.

In a world free from war, she would be a playful girl who adored her family and lived as normal a life as possible while being a princess. As it is, she tries to take her responsibilities as a member of the royal family as seriously as possible; she gives up her education to take the position of sub-viceroy of Area 11, and she’s the one who fights to make that position a meaningful one, instead of simply a title. She truly wants to make the world a better place: one where nobody has to lose the ones they love, and one where everybody can keep smiling.

In terms of housing, Euphy would fit well in Hufflepuff, with Gryffindor as a back-up. She's an idealistic person who fights for what she believes to be the right thing, and she is willing to put in the effort. They also have a bit of a reputation for being an unimpressive house, and regardless of the truth to that, it reflects Euphy's own views of herself - not particularly remarkable. Plus, the tendency of Hufflepuff to be the most inclusive and accepting of the four houses is something she'd admire very much. She does have the Gryffindor tendency of acting before thinking, and she can be quite brave when the situation calls for it, but she tends to be less of a fighter, and more of a peaceful activist.

COMMUTER DETAILS: Untapped.

POSITION: Student (third year)

CURRICULUM: n/a

ABILITIES & POWERS: In terms of powers, Euphy doesn’t have any supernatural abilities.

Because of her desire to keep others safe and happy, her strengths will likely lie in defensive spells and healing spells. In contrast, she will likely have difficulty with offensive spells, particularly strong and harmful ones; because of her pacifistic nature, she will be greatly conflicted whenever casting a serious spell on another person. Casting an unforgivable curse would take a lot of effort and practice on her part for it to even be slightly effective.

In terms of subjects, she’ll probably be good at Defense Against the Dark Arts, due to her aforementioned affinity for defensive-type magic, and Care of Magical Creatures, as she’s shown to be very friendly towards animals in canon. Subjects such as herbology and potions will likely give her some difficulty, in part because she’s never learned relevant skills (such as gardening and cooking) – and potions itself will pose an even bigger hurdle due to her impulsive nature, as she’s not given to the sort of detailed attention that would do her well in potions class. She’ll also likely have trouble with History of Magic, although that has more to do with how boring the class is than anything else.

WAND: Willow and unicorn hair, 10½ inches, supple.

Wood: Willow is noted in the Pottermore wand lore as a strong wood for healing, an area of magic which Euphy will probably be attracted to. It is also often attracted to witches or wizards with insecurities (fitting well with her concerns about being a mere figurehead) and those with untapped potential - such as someone new to magic entirely.

Core: It's said that unicorn hair is found in the most loyal of wands. They don’t produce the strongest of magic, but these wands are hard to turn to dark magic, much as Euphy remains true to her ideals.

Flexibility: While she does have her moments of stubbornness, she also can adapt well to situations and think on her feet, requiring a fair amount of flexibility - which is reflected in her wand.

…This is how this works, right? Oh.

[ The camera shifts, and now you have the bright, smiling face of a girl decked out in her new Hufflepuff uniform. ]

Hello! [ Little wave. ]

I’m a little new here, so I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough as to show me around? I think I might be lost [ she hadn’t expected the castle to be so big. or so confusing. ], and I’d like to get to know my way around the school better.

It’d be very nice if you could explain everything, too, but that...might be too much to ask.

[ Pause, and she’s going to turn off the commuter, when she realizes] —Oh, I almost forgot to introduce myself! [ How rude of her. ] My name is Euphy.

THIRD PERSON:

Euphy had never expected gardening to be so difficult.

She'd never had the chance to try it back home; she'd always loved the palace gardens, both those at Aries as well as the Viceroy Palace, but princesses weren't gardeners. She'd been the one frolicking through the flowers, but she'd never learned how to care for them herself.

She’d always wondered what it would be like, to be able to make something so beautiful grow with your own two hands. But her imagination was quite different from reality, if this herbology class was anything to go by – although, to be fair, she was pretty sure that flowers were a far cry easier to deal with than mandrakes. It didn’t help that mandrakes greatly resembled human babies. She had no idea what to do with one, especially one that was so obviously distressed by her presence, and it showed.

Wincing, she stole a look down at her hands. She’d forgotten her gloves, and she was paying for it. Her palms were bright red, a few calluses starting to form; a far cry from the soft, pale, dainty princess hands she was expected to maintain. The hands of someone who’d never done a day’s work, because she’d never had to.

In a way, it made her feel proud, because the markings meant she was no longer quite as helpless as she’d once been. And that thought had her straightening her back with renewed energy, preparing herself before reaching for the next mandrake.

No sense stopping now.
